Any of the different NFP methods (Billings, Couple to Couple League, Creighton, Marquette Model or SymptoPro) will fullfill your pre-marriage NFP requirement.
The Couple to Couple League (CCL) teaches a “Sympto-Thermal Method” (STM) of Natural Family Planning (NFP). The STM utilizes observations similar to the major mucus-only methods, but combines it with a temperature sign to paint a more complete picture of your fertility each month. The Couple to Couple League’s Sympto-Thermal Method has a method effectiveness of 99.6%.
Classes are taught by a Certified Teaching Couple who has gone through extensive training to become certified to teach the method. All CCL Teaching Couples are volunteers who teach NFP only because they love to see people’s lives changed through its use – not for any payment or monetary benefit.
Classes will include the science behind fertility and Natural Family Planning, the basis of the Sympto-Thermal Method, application of the method in real-life, discussion on human sexuality and theology, and the personal experience of the Teaching Couple in practicing NFP. Classes meet three times, each a month apart and the cost is $140.

At this time, the Diocese of Bismarck requires live instruction.
Paul and Chelsea Forster (Bismarck)
While engaged, we were struck by the joyful witness of our Couple to Couple League instructors. After practicing NFP for nearly eight years ourselves, using it both to postpone and to achieve pregnancy, and experiencing the life giving love it encourages, we wanted to share the gift of NFP with others. We believe that NFP is a tremendous gift to married couples. It has helped us to communicate more effectively and grow more deeply in our married love.
Luke and Melinda Seidling (Bismarck)
We began teaching NFP when we noticed a need for NFP education within our local parish, specifically as part of the marriage preparation process. During our marriage preparation NFP was not discussed in much detail and we really wanted other couples to have access to solid, faithful education about NFP. Our practice of NFP has touched our marriage in so many wonderful ways, and we really wanted to share the joy we have experienced with as many couples as we could.
We love NFP because we whole-heartedly believe that our practice of NFP has transformed our marriage in countless ways. Our catch phrase is: “if you can talk about mucus, you can talk about anything” and that has been so incredibly true in our married life. We have found that our practice of NFP has opened the doors of communication and trust between us as spouses and between us and God. Our practice of NFP has helped us to see the need to lean on God and trust in His will and His timing and to lean on our spouse as a source of love and support. We can’t imagine our marriage without NFP!

James and Kimberly Fries (Linton)
After hearing a homily by our parish priest about how we are all called to sanctify our culture, we prayed about how we could help other married couples and decided to start looking into teaching NFP. We love Natural Family planning because it gives a good understanding of a woman’s fertility and openness to life. We look forward to teaching many couples in our area in order to strengthen their relationship with God and each other.
Kevin and Tammy Martian (Mandan)
Once we were married and began using NFP, we quickly realized the graces we received from it. Also, with Kevin being in pharmacy school we were bombarded with the contraceptive mentality. We became very passionate about NFP and enjoy sharing and teaching others about NFP.
Scott and Jen Johannsen (Minot)
We teach NFP because after working with couples in various formats we realize what an opportunity we have to share our struggles and less than perfect path to NFP. While working with couples helps us to remember our love for one another, it also reiterates God’s grace at work in our own lives. Class nights are a date night for us and there is no other place we would rather spend it!
