The Finance Office of the Bismarck Diocese is responsible for administering and accounting for the temporal goods of the diocese to assure that assets and expenditures are legitimately authorized and protected per the bishop, related diocesan authorities, and per norms of canons 471 and 494, Code of Canon Law.
This office is directed with preparation and presentation of accounting reports for all diocesan programs, maintenance of the diocesan financial accounting system and records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and oversees the annual independent audits of all the diocesan corporate and trust entities, listed below. Other financial duties include preparation and monitoring of the annual budget, maintaining diocesan employees’ payroll, providing human resource assistance to diocesan offices, related benefits, and overseeing the diocese (clergy and lay employees), parishes, & schools’ 401(k) retirement and health plans. In addition, the office oversees the diocesan computer and technology services for the diocese. The needs of the retired priests of the diocese are also served by staff of this office.
The Finance Office serves as the liaison between the diocese and the following trusts and corporations: the Priest Benefit Association (priests' retirement plan), Casey Trust Fund (trust fund for Catholic education), Expansion Fund (deposit and loan fund for parishes and schools), and Provision for the Future (consists of Catholic Schools and Religious Education Fund, Priests’ Care Fund, Seminarian Scholarship Fund, and other small funds).
