Know, Love and Serve (KLS) Ministries welcomes all to their one-year anniversary party celebration. The evening will consist of fellowship, music, food and praise and worship lead by Meagen Kline. It will be held at the Bismarck State College Student Union Center in the Alumni Room (enter through door F) on Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. KLS Ministries mission is to build up the kingdom of heaven—one soul at a time—by coming to know, love and serve the Lord through and with each other. KLS Ministry night is a gathering of young adults who meet monthly to come listen to a speaker as well as a personal testimony. There is also food, fellowship and discussion/small groups. This fall, the St. Mary Sisters will be offering an extra-curricular catechism class for children ages 6 through 13 on Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. – 5 p.m. at Ascension Parish’s upstairs classrooms. There is no set cost for these classes but a monthly donation to the St. Mary Sisters is requested to assist them in carrying out this work. Beginning Experience, a non-denomination peer ministry, is offering the 10-week session titled "Coping with Life Alone" beginning Sunday, Sept. 8 for those who struggle after the loss a love relationship by death, separation or divorce. The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck is hosting a community evangelization event called "Bark Fest" on Saturday, Sept. 14 on the street in front of the church. This event for dog-loving parishioners and community members and their dogs will be from 10 a.m. to noon and will feature blessing of dogs, free waffles and coffee from Copper Dog Café, ice cream (including pup cups), doggie treat bags, adoptable dogs from area dog rescues, Bismarck Police Dept. K9 demonstration and dog health and training tips. The event is open to everyone, so bring your dog and a friend. Please note that dogs must be leashed.
Support Dakota Hope Clinic by attending a fundraising banquet in September at three different locations. Events will be held Sept. 15 in Bottineau, Sept. 16 in Minot and Sept. 17 in Tioga. Enjoy great food, an inspiring message from a survivor of human trafficking and learn how you can partner with Dakota Hope to provide essential pregnancy, parenting and family services to the people of western North Dakota. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear the harrowing and inspiring story of guest speaker Jean Davis, who escaped nearly 20 years of human trafficking. The St. Serra Vocations Apostolate of Bismarck-Mandan is having their annual fundraising breakfast and bake sale for religious vocations on Sunday, Sept. 15 at the St. Mary’s Academy cafeteria (1025 N. 2nd St.). The meal is served from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, coffee and juice. Soft serve ice cream will also be available with an assortment of toppings. Cost is $10 for adults; $5 for children (10 and under) and free for children under age 3. There will also be a bake sale. Donations are welcome for the bake sale and can be dropped off on Saturday, Sept. 14 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
All are invited to a series of evenings at the Church of Saint Anne in Bismarck called “Theology on Tap.” The adults-only events will be held on Friday nights starting at 7 p.m. in the parish garage (enter through the church east door or parish office). Three nights for women will be Sept. 27, Nov. 22 and March 28. The men’s nights are Oct. 25, Feb. 28 and April 25. The events are open to everyone ages 21 and over.
Join the fun on Sunday, Sept. 29 for the St. Vincent de Paul Society Friends for the Poor Walk. The annual 5k will begin at Sertoma Park at the Sertoma Club Community Center in Bismarck. Registration begins at 3:30 p.m. with the walk/run starting at 4 p.m. The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Knights of Columbus will serve a picnic meal after the walk. This is a noncompetitive walk/run to raise money for the poor in our community. There is no registration fee, but a freewill donation is much appreciated. In honor of Respect Life Month, the Bismarck/Mandan Right to Life will sponsor a life chain on Sunday Oct. 6 from 2 to 3 p.m. Those who choose to gather prayerfully and peacefully in support of pro-life causes will stand along Boulevard Ave. from 4th St. to 9th St. in Bismarck to form a life chain. Take the opportunity to stand up for the unborn at the N.D. March for Life on Friday, Oct. 11. The day begins with Mass celebrated by Bishop Kagan at 10:45 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, followed by a march to the N.D. capitol building steps and a rally. The rally is set to begin at 12:30 p.m. The event is a joint planning effort with the Bismarck Diocese, University of Mary and other entities which created the North Dakota Pro-Life Committee. The North Dakota March for Life is an annual event in October to coincide with Respect Life Month. Bishop Kagan will lead a holy hour on the eve of the N.D. March for Life on Thursday, Oct. 10 beginning at 6 p.m. in the main body of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit. The public is invited to attend.
Search for Christian Maturity is a weekend retreat experience which provides youth an opportunity to think, talk, question and dive deeper into their faith. The weekends are for any high school or college age person at least 15 years old. The program is both rooted in the Catholic faith and open to young people of any denomination or creed. Search weekends are held five times throughout the year at the Badlands Ministries Camp just south of Medora. Cost for the weekend is $75. Partial scholarships are available.
